Pros and cons of Handbook of High-Risk Obstetrics app for iPhone and iPad

Handbook of High-Risk Obstetrics app good for

This program was helpful on rounds, was great for studying how to treat patients and answering patient questions. Easy to use interface, consice but well written sections covering all aspects of the high-risk pregnancy.
In my third year. I see some women in the clinic with some pretty complex conditions. I got this handbook because the paper one I have has never really been useful. I got to read up on antiphospholipid syndrome really quick when we admitted a lady with a DVT. Took me about 5 minutes to get the basics of what to test for and what to do. The search function works well, found just about every topic that pertained to this disorder. Id like to see more on how to do a formal ultrasound. We do L&D scans but Im never sure that I couldnt do it better. Great reference, though!
Ive got the big Gabbe textbook, and I can study it at home. This reference manual has basically all of the topics covered, without the extra stuff. Last week I got back a low MCV on a Chinese lady and putting MCV into the search field, I got a 10-minute review on thalassemia. I got this a while back, and use it a lot. I mainly want to do GYN surgery, so having this when I have to run the antepartum service is great. I dont know why people are saying its lightweight - maybe they havent seen all the chapters. Last month I was down in Radiology doing fetal scans and the pictures in the ultrasound section were exactly what I needed to see. Five stars here - this has everything you need on your OB rotation if you see antepartums or are assigned to high-risk clinic.
OK, I wondered if this would be worth it, but I wanted a good reference for OB. I started on 3 months of Medicine and had the Washington Manual. It was a lifesaver for someone like me who didnt really like internal med. This is really good - Ive been on L&D and the clinic and so far everything I needed to look up was there, so I didnt look too stupid in front of the patients. Some of them know more about what they have than most of the residents. At least with this I can be somewhat familiar with what I see in the chart before I go into the room. I paid more than $50 for the Washington Manual so this price is good. And if its updated like they say it will be even better. I dont have the energy to read the ACOG updates when I am home so hopefully most of the important ones will be in here. I do ultrasound next year and hope they add more pictures. So far they are easy to understand. Kudos for this.
I got this because one of the chief residents had it. So far I have looked up a lot of stuff and I have to say its very good. Theres not a lot of fluff about how a bunch of different research studies turned out - just the critical things you need to see the patient and know what to do. I used the Washington manual on medicine and this is every bit as good. It actually goes into more detail than I expected. The search works great and thats what I use the most. I want to see more ultrasound images and labor tracings.
Just a note to request that you keep adding the ultrasound images. They are better than the books. The latest new chapters with the new fetal heart monitoring terminology were unknown even to my attending on rounds. Thanks!

Some bad moments

Information are not updated, despite all official guidelines availble. Scans are not ok, with many errors.
I couldnt find an entry for treatment of intrauterine infection, and I couldnt make the search function work. Waste of money, dont buy it.
Oh..... Totally not worth the big $. Dont buy.... Sorry I did!!!!
Very superficial review with not nearly enough information. Definitely not worth $50. I feel like I wasted my money.
If I had to put a price oN this I would say .99 would be appropriate. This does not provide the level of detail that I would expect out of a $40 app.
JUST NOT WOTH ANYTHING, NOTHING MORE THAN A STUDENT OUTLINE!!!!
